The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Miles is the treasurer and co-founder of the Columbia College Chicago chapter of the ACLU. He is the Student Government Association Art and Design senator. Miles chairs the Student Academic Concerns Committee, where he wrote the Academic Bill of Rights, and administers the current Academic Achievement Award. He is working to create a progressive and creative campus community.
